"The wealthiest 300 people have greater riches than the three billion poorest. The three wealthiest people have greater riches than the 48 poorest countries put together. With only limited environmental space to accommodate the expected 9 billion human inhabitants of the world by 2050, such disparities in consumption are clearly not sustainable"

Purpose

The purpose of GiFFT is to advance sustainable community development in developing countries through the practice of "fair trade." Fair Trade provides an ongoing market-based means for improving the incomes and lives or farmers and producers, and for funding community development. GiFFT's focus on sustainable community development is manifest in its mission statement, which reads as follows:

"MISSION STATEMENT: GIFFT partners with developing country producers to improve their standard of living and support holistic community development, and connects their quality products to a global network of ethically-minded buyers."

In alignment with its mission, GiFFT supports the accountable use of the fair trade "social premium" funds. A web-based Community Development Support Service (now under development) will show progress reports, photos and videoclips from community development projects in producer communities. This Service will be staffed by Community Development Support Specialists who will regularly visit producers to track and support their community development projects.

GiFFT's activity is global by means of its working relationship with HISG - Humanitarian International Services Group. GiFFT leverages HISG's worldwide "on-the-ground" networks to advance fair-trade commerce and community development. HISG's humanitarian networks are active in over 60 countries, and all of these networks are available to GiFFT to advance its mission.
